As Fag Rag grows on Substack, we're on the lookout for dedicated writers to join our team and help us delve deeper into the queer culture of Fire Island, Provincetown, and NYC.
What We’re Looking For:
Community Deep Dives: Dive into the operations of local LGBTQ+ organizations, the impact of local politics, and daily life within these vibrant communities.
Nightlife and Cultural Exploration: Capture the essence of queer nightlife and arts, revealing the layers that make each scene unique.
Health and Wellness: Write comprehensive pieces addressing the specific health concerns of our community.
Personal and Historical Narratives: Link personal experiences with the broader movements in LGBTQ+ rights and presence.
Opinion Pieces: Offer fresh perspectives on gender and race issues, enriching our community dialogue.
What We’re Not Looking For:
Avoiding Mainstream: Steer clear of general pop culture and tourist-centric narratives.
Focus on Local Flavor: We prize stories deeply embedded in their specific locales.
Depth Over Fluff: Our readers crave meaningful, engaging content.
Our Specific Needs:
One Writer per City: We are ideally looking for one writer from each city—Fire Island, Provincetown, and NYC—to contribute one article per month. Whether you're a generalist or have a specific beat in mind, we’re open to exploring that niche with you.
Open to Pitches: If you have a one-off story idea, we’re also eager to hear your pitches and possibly feature your work.
Compensation: Each article will be compensated at $375 for 1,000 words. This rate is not negotiable.
